The Community Scheme Ombud Service Act No 9 of 2011 regulates the conduct of parties within the scheme.

Community Schemes are defined in the CSOS Act as "living arrangements here there is shared use of responsibility and land/buildings such as sectional title, Home Owners Associations Retirement Housing schemes, shared block companies and Housing cooperation"

One of the main functions of CSOS is to provide dispute resolution services. This means that community schemes, trustees, residents and agents may log a dispute with the ombudsman and await their judgment.

There are more functions of the Community Scheme Ombud such as to regulate, monitor and quality assure the schemes governance documents. This means that when your Community Scheme decides to change any of the conduct- or management rules or constitution it must be approved by CSOS

CSOS provides an impartial and transparent service to deal quickly and inexpensively with several issues that arise in the administration of a community scheme.
